What is an NDE?
A near-death experience (NDE) is typically a profound, life changing, intensely emotional experience that usually occurs during a clinical crisis and has common characteristics and aftereffects. It is not a dream, hallucination, or mental illness (Greyson, 1983). There are no predictive variables to identify who will have an NDE. They happen to people of all ages, religions, socio-economic groups, cultures, educational backgrounds, and belief systems. They occur under a variety of circumstances such as accidents, near-drownings, illnesses, combat, surgical procedures, and childbirth. Following an NDE, experiencers (NDErs) often display some common aftereffects. Research has established a set of common NDE characteristics and long-term aftereffects. Theories used to explain near-death experiences in purely physical terms have been proven inadequate by NDE researchers and others.

In this episode Dani Foffa talks to spiritual journalist, researcher, and author AJ Parr, who shares the extraordinary story of the night he stopped breathing in his sleep and entered a timeless realm of void, light, and oneness. Upon returning, he received profound revelations about God, the creation story, and the hidden secret behind spirituality. This experience led him to spend the next three decades exploring the common roots of the world’s major religions — and, more recently, their striking parallels with near-death experiences (NDEs).
AJ is an IANDS group facilitator, a senior consciousness researcher with the Institute for the Scientific Study of Consciousness (ISCC), and the author of more than 20 spiritual books, including two focused on NDEs — his most recent featuring a foreword by Dr. Raymond Moody. He has interviewed over 150 near-death experiencers and afterlife researchers on his AJ Parr Spiritual Journalist YouTube channel.
He is also the founder of the Near-Death Experience & Spiritual Awakening Facebook group, with more than 145,000 members worldwide, and the CEO of Grapevine Books, a publishing company dedicated to helping independent authors write and publish their spiritual books on Amazon.
In this episode, AJ shares some of the comparative research he has conducted and explores surprising similarities between ancient religions and NDEs, so be sure to watch until the end!

Today he is a researcher at the University of Northampton, and focuses on applying afterlife science to support the bereaved and dying. His unique, evidence-based approach to grief and end-of-life care blends science, psychotherapy, and compassion. He is a member of IANDS, of the Society for Psychical Research, and of the Scientific and Medical Network. Bill is the most-watched NDEr on YouTube, with nearly 20 million views across popular channels such as Coming Home, Shaman Oaks, and The Other Side NDE, and had a profound NDE following a duty-related exposure, during which he saw himself flying through a sea of euphoria filled with colorful, welcoming stars and orbs, and found himself in a kind of facility, where he encountered joyful Beings who told him he had to return to his life for some “important” things. Bill’s story is rooted in the idea that a near-death experience is an invitation for transformation and in this episode, he shares his remarkable journey and some of the incredible insights he has gained from it, so be sure to watch until the end!

In this episode we talk to afterlife researcher, former IANDS Board Member and creator of the world’s first and largest near-death experiences Facebook group, Ned Matinnia. Ned has been a seeker since childhood and his life was transformed after he discovered near-death experiences and mediumship. Today he works as a software engineer in Silicon Valley but his greatest passion is getting the word out about NDEs and their message of kindness, emphasizing that unity and coming together across the world is the path to healing. In this episode, packed with insight and wisdom, we discuss what we can learn from the field of near-death studies about consciousness and the divine, whether NDEs are laying the groundworks for a more spiritually oriented society, and Dani introduces for the first time the concept of an “Afterlifer”, as someone who came to terms with the afterlife through scientific evidence, rather than through the traditional paths of Religion or Faith, so be sure to watch until the end!
